Biscuit (cookie) flavour: Orange, cardamom, and vanilla

Decoration: Royal icing base. All designs were painted by hand with gel food colourings and vodka.

Context: Inspired by the works of Maria Sibylla Merian, a naturalist and nature artist who contributed to the advance of entomology (the scientific study of insects) in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The designs on the biscuits are taken from illustrations in the Royal Collection. The original illustrations are watercolour on vellum.
